WMPID has been instrumental in fostering a supportive environment for small businesses through strategic infrastructure investments and public safety to support the growth within the District. Infrastructure projects, such as the extension of Research Forest Drive, have facilitated easier access to shopping centers, resulting in significant revenue increases. For instance, the Westwood Village Shopping Center experienced a revenue boost of $1.494 billion, with 38% attributed to improved access.
Safety and security are paramount in fostering a conducive environment for small businesses. WMPID has invested in public safety measures, such as installing new traffic signals, turning lanes, and establishing a police substation at the Westwood Village Shopping Center. These efforts have contributed to a heightened sense of security, encouraging business owners and customers to engage within the District confidently. Additionally, WMPID has funded measures like purchasing a ladder truck, improving fire safety ratings, and lowering insurance costs for local businesses.
Beyond infrastructure, WMPID actively supports small businesses through various initiatives. The District offers financial incentives, including grants to local businesses and landowners, to encourage development and expansion.
WMPID also collaborates with regional economic development partners to provide resources and assistance, ensuring small businesses can thrive. Through agreements with the City of Conroe, district landowners are exempt from annexation and associated property taxes until 2036, resulting in significant cost savings.
Small Business Month serves as a reminder of the integral role that small businesses play in the economic fabric of WMPID. Through infrastructure improvements, cost-saving incentives, enhanced public safety, and dedicated support services, WMPID continues cultivating an environment where small businesses can grow, succeed, and enrich the community.
