Economic development is critical to the growth and prosperity of businesses and individuals in any community. From attracting new and supporting existing businesses to creating new job opportunities, economic development initiatives drive enhancements that impact an area's overall quality of life.

The Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District (WMPID) is an economic development organization focused on those efforts in and around Conroe, Magnolia and The Woodlands. Two national events this spring are perfect opportunities to raise awareness of local economic development efforts: National Small Business Week (April 28 - May 4) and  Economic Development Week (EDW) from May 6th - May 10th.

"At WMPID, we quickly identify needs and fund local infrastructure improvements to address them," said Rob Eissler, Executive Director at WMPID. "The partnerships with local private and public organizations allow for collaborative efforts to drive forward the economic and overall quality of life for our residents.”

In support of small businesses

American Express has reported that $0.68 of every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S. stays in the local community, while every dollar spent at small businesses creates an additional $0.48 in local business activity.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has recognized that impact through National Small Business Week for over 60 years. The event runs April 28 - May 4, 2024, and acknowledges the entrepreneurs and small business owners whose hard work, ingenuity, and dedication drive the good fortunes of communities nationwide.

WMPID proactively seeks to help small businesses access the help they need through several methods. The organization has grant funds allocated and available to local businesses and landowners. Additionally, WMPID can facilitate the connections to local and state financial, tax and workforce incentives for qualifying businesses. Recognizing economic development

The International Economic Development Council’s EDW broadly acknowledges the importance of economic development. Economic development involves various activities to attract, create, and retain jobs to enhance a region’s economic well-being, wealth, and overall quality of life. This collaborative effort requires close coordination between businesses, government entities, and various community stakeholders to achieve sustainable success.

During EDW, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our economic developers and local leaders, who are committed to driving economic growth and improving our community's quality of life. We invite you to join us in recognizing their efforts and learning more about economic development's impact on our region.
