The District held a confirmation election to add land to the District in the directions that future development and projects were taking. The vote passed. Most of the new land that was added is raw and will eventually be developed. We included these areas, as we are planning to landscape the raised median that will be included in the widening of FM 1488 in the next 3 years. We felt that adding vegetation will soften the concrete ribbon of the Magnolia Parkway that is the major east-west thoroughfare in Montgomery County. Similarly, land was added to the south, where future development should spawn infrastructure and the revenue to pay for it. The election additions enabled the District to save on legal fees, as individual parcels produce fees that would take years to recoup. Most of the raw land added will take some time to develop, so adding it now will give the District time to plan in each area. Following the election, as of April, 2020, the District consists of 1,800 acres.
The District will continue to expand through voluntary annexations. To learn more, contact WMPID at (281) 519-7779 or by emailing Info@westwoodmpid.org.
