Spring Update to Tamina Road Project

News

The Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District (WMPID) is nearing the final phases of the Tamina Road Congestion Improvement Project. Our mission is to deliver a high-performing, safe, and visually appealing corridor that fully serves local residents, small businesses, and commuters for decades to come.

Here’s a look at the project’s latest developments and what’s expected to arrive later this year.

Road Surface Engineering Review

A data-driven traffic study previously demonstrated the urgent necessity of improving and widening Tamina Road to support regional traffic flow and minimize daily bottlenecks. While this structural widening is complete, WMPID's engineering team recently identified sections of the final concrete layer that do not completely meet rigorous County paving standards.

To rectify this, WMPID commissioned an independent ride quality study to map the precise sections of the road needing to be ground down. The engineering team is coordinating with the project contractor to correct these flagged sections and create a smooth, uniform, and compliant driving surface.

WMPID and our engineering oversight team take full responsibility for ensuring this project complies with safety and engineering mandates. We appreciate your patience as we hold our development partners to the highest standard before final acceptance and completion of this roadway.

Safety & Mobility Infrastructure Enhancements

The physical reconfiguration of Tamina Road introduces several brand-new, modern safety elements designed to protect drivers and pedestrians alike.

Dedicated Non-Vehicular Lanes

To dramatically improve safety, we have added completely separated bike lanes and pedestrian sidewalks. This addition safely separates slow-moving users from the main traffic lanes.

Curbs & Median Improvement

Raised concrete curbs and a continuous center median have been installed along the thoroughfare. These new curbs and continuous median eliminate the dangerous parking hazards and unpredictable turning maneuvers that have historically disrupted this corridor.

Corridor Beautification

Because the final road re-surfacing must occur before peripheral work can conclude, the scheduled installation of our local median landscaping has experienced structural delays.

Updated Timeline: To ensure optimal plant survival rates and avoid the intense summer heat, WMPID has shifted the median planting schedule to a more favorable Fall 2026 window.

Looking Ahead: FM 1488

WMPID’s vision for community aesthetics doesn't stop at Tamina Road. Building on the momentum of this project, the District is actively working in tandem with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to design and install similar beautifully landscaped medians along the District’s designated portion of FM 1488. This regional partnership will drastically improve the entryway aesthetics and baseline safety of our commercial boundaries.
